About

For Festival Extra! #6 at the Centre Pompidou in September 2022, Bye Bye Binary produced a series of nine posters. Each one was entrusted to a duo of creators from the collective, sometimes joined by invited typo*graphers dear to us. These posters function both as typographic specimens of our experiments and as manifestos of the anger that drives us.

BBB invites Tristan Bartolini, in tandem with Camille Circlude, to close the loop on the historical distortions circulating in the media that have attributed the invention of inclusive typography to Tristan alone.
Together, as perilous and immortal figures, they dismantle the romantic myth of the isolated genius by reclaiming its symbols and questioning the role of institutions — including that of the museum itself. In an unapologetic stance, Camille and Tristan rewrite and mock these declarations, revisiting together a shared anger that once drove them (1).

For the second proposal (2), Camille and Tristan draw on the manifesto text “Performer la précarité” from the book Fiévreuse plébéienne by Gorge (a.k.a. Élodie Petit), published by Éditions du commun in 2022. The typeface Almendra Regular by Ana Sanfelippo was expanded with post-binary ligatures by Camille and Tristan. Set entirely in capitals, the type treatment evokes the justified layout of lapidary inscriptions — a text meant to be carved in stone.
